okay so now that we know what a brand kit is and what it’s used for let meshow you how to set one up in canva so on the main dashboard of canva on theleft hand side you’ll see an icon here under Tools that says brandthat’s what you will click on to create a brand kit so if we click click on that it’s goingto take us to another page that will allow us to create a brand kit as youcan tell I have quite a few brand kits for my own business but we’re gonna workwith one um that’s just going to befor the purpose of this tutorial we’re going to create a new brand kit so we’regoing to up here in the right upper right um section we’re going to click on add newand it’s going to give you two options to add either a brand kit or a brand template we’re going to click on brandkit let’s name our kit brandkit tutorial just so we can distinguish it from theother brackets in my on my page and we’ll click createnow we have a new brand kit set up called brand kit tutorial and you canalways click on this and change the name for the name of your brand kitum so if we scroll down we’ll see the components of our brand kit that we’ll be setting up in canva which as wediscussed before is composed of our brand logos whichcould not could could mean well it does mean your logo if you have onebut it can also be several other things that you will add to that and I’ll come back to that in just a minute sothere’ll be a few different things that we’ll include here in our under our brand logos it also includes our brandcolors and our brand fonts now like I said beforeyou can include more than just your One logo so if you have severalum sizes of your logo that you might want to use for differentum purposes um you might want to add a black and white a black version of your logo awhite version of your logo and these can come in handy when you are applying them to differentdifferent documents different photos maybe they will stand out more you alsomight want to put your a picture of yourself or a frequent image that youmight want to use um in your marketing so to demonstrate I’m going to uploadum one of my Logos so I can show you the difference between a PNG logo and a JPEG logo and I’llexplain that just in a second so I want to findforeign so I’m searchingthe logo okay I’m gonna pull this one upand I’m gonna pull up well how about if I pull up this oneand if I hit open it’s going to load hereand I’m gonna add another one another logoand these will be it’ll look like the same logo but one is a PNG and one is a JPEG and thedifference is the um the PNG here is you see the the darkbackground which means it’s transparent this oneeven though it looks the same it has a solid white background which is the jpegso on the transparent background when you apply it to something it’s gonna theblack area is going to be transparent whereas if you use the jpeg this area isgoing to be solid and there’s different reasons for using either of them but here where you havethe option to load both I would load both because you never know when you’re going to need them now this is a perfectopportunity to explain the difference between the free version of canva andthe pro version of canva so there are some limitationsum with the free version of canva um in the free version you are limitedto three colors and I know you see four colors here in my brand colors alreadyand I’m going to remove them just so I can show you how to add colors in amoment but in the free version you’re only allowed three colors now that’sworkable um typically I usually will put in my normal color palette and I’ll add whiteand black to that um but you could just put in your three colors and work with that and use thefree version of canva however the paid version will allow you to use as manycolors as you want um in your color palette typically that can be around three to five maybe sevencolors um you don’t want to add more than that because it starts to look you knowrather messy and we’re trying to develop a cohesive color palette for our brandum the next thing is that in the free version of canva canva has severalum fonts that you can use and I just deleted them butlet me go back I just added back what I just took out so um canva has several fonts that youcan use and choose um from from their platform but if thatwould be in the free version but if you have the paid version you can alsoupload a specific font let’s say you have a specific font that you use for your brand that you found on anotherplatform you can just upload upload that here but it does need to be the paidversion to allow you to do that but you can use the free versionum you’re not terribly limited by using the free version um so let’s go back I’ve alreadyuploaded a few um logos here I’m going to upload a picture of myself just to show youwhat that looks like and why you wouldbenefit by adding that to your to your brand kitokay so I’ve added two other images one is a solid jpeg of myself another one isa PNG so this background is actually transparent and it’s my signature so inmy signature is information about how to contact me my social media contacts andas you can see it has this checkered background if you go in close you can see that it’s a checkered background andit is um transparent just like this logo okayso moving to the color palette so the way you can add colors here is tohit this plus button and if you know what colors you want to use then you canput in the hex code um which this number here represents thecolor that you see here but you can move this icon around to find a different colorand you see how it changes down here as I move this with my cursorand choose a different color to using your color palette then you can clickplus again and move move and use a different color now if you have aspecific color palette this is where you would just input the hex code of thatcolor here and then it’ll populate that color here umI will give you a resource to develop um your own well to find a resource tohelp you develop your own color palette for your brand and it’s right withincanva and I’ll show you that in just a moment but for the meantime let’s just add onemore color and I’m just picking random colors this is not necessarily a really good colorpalette that I would want to use but I just want to give you an example of how to add color palettes and since um thefree version only allows you to use three I’m just going to put these three up um to represent what would we use in thefree version of camel let’s move over to the fonts now as you can see there’ssome pre-loaded fonts here and this one’s fine um let’s see what the name of this oneis well as I click on it you see that we have the option to choose a differentfont if we want to I happen to like Poppins extra bowl so I’m just going tochange it to that all right and as you can see it changedto that font and this is the size of the font as well um for my subtitle now that will go onall of my headings um in my brand kit the subheadings Iusually like to use a script font so I’m going to choose one that I’ve seenrecently that I like which is beauty salon scriptand as you’ll see it changed to that script I do want to change the size of that to be a little bit larger so I’mgoing to change it to 24. and this um body script here I happen tolike um using a Sans script so use open Sansand you’ll be surprised at how many different fonts are actually available in uh canva for your use so you canscroll through them um the recommendation is to use a Sans scripta Sans script um like open sounds like I just used here I would change the size of that toomaybe 14 and to use a scriptfont as well and then to use a bolder font for your headings okayokay so now we have basically our brand kit we have our logos and frequentlyused images we have our color palette set and we have our font set as well nowremember you can go back and make any changes to this brand kit if you decide you want to use a different color youwant to change a color you want to Omit a color you can always go back and do that here if you have the paid versionyou can continue to add colors and logos um the fonts you can go back and changewhen um whenever you decide you want to make a change and if you have the paidversion excuse me you can upload fonts as wellokay so now that we have our brand kit basically established and set uplet’s see how we can put it to you so that it saves us time which is the mainuse of creating this brand kit in the first place so the way we’ll do this is we will goand create a design in canva now that we have our brand kit established let’s goand create something with it so we’ll go to um the create design button up here in theright upper corner and we’ll choose somethinghere let’s see I usually like to chooselet’s choose a flyerportrait flyer so this is like a standardum letter size flyer sorry my computer’s a little slowokay so as I said this is a letter size flyer typical flyer and what I want todo is I want to use one of the templates that canva canva has hundreds maybe eventhousands of templates already pre-made that you can use to edit to your likingand I’ll show you how this works with the using the brand kit that we just createdso here I’m going to click on well actually let me show you how you search for something so let’s look up daycareflyer if I could spell okay as you can see there’s quite a fewpre-made templates okay I’m gonna put I’m going to choose asimple design for to demonstrate today let’s click onthis one okay now if I click here it will apply bothof these pages to my design automatically okay so that’s what we’re going to do we’re going to click on thatand as you can see it populated the design I’m going to stretch it just a littlebit just so it fills the whole area and there so look we already have aflyer created but this isn’t set up for our business yet this is set up as atemplate and it’s very handy because we don’t have to design do all thedesign work the design work is pretty much damp rest but we do need to edit itso it represents our brand okay so I’m going to show you how to do that using the brand kit that we’ve already createdso if we click on an area in this template let’s click on the backgroundwhich is this deep blue if I click on the Deep the the coloricon here this little square you can see that it brings upa whole color palette area well I’m going to switch this to the brand kit that we just created so what I did waslet me show you what I just did I clicked here because it’s set for a different brand kit for myself right nowbut I want to find the brand kit that we just created so let’s scrolldown and find that brand kit so this was the one we just created called brand kidtutorial and I’m going to click on that now that I clicked on it you can seethat it brought up our brand kit right so what I want to do is I want thistemplate to transform into colors that are in my brand kitnow I could individually change out the colors of this template if I clicked onlike I did before I clicked on the blue right so the blue is highlighted I could change it tothis color that’s in my brand kit simply by clicking on that colorbut here’s the beauty of using canva and canvas featuresand your brand kit once you’ve created it to make this so simpleand the way you do that is by clicking here in the style section hereand what that does is bring up the full brand kit that we’ve created both fontsand our color palette and if I click on this it’s going to change this wholeflyer and all the colors that are already set in this in this template to ones thatum are in my brand kit and better represent my business so I’m going to click on that and as you can see look atthat all of the colors have changed um if I don’t like the way that colorcombination looks I can always come back and Shuffle it so I’m just clicking again here and it shuffles the colorsagain so as you can see using the stylesfeature here and the brand kit that we’ve already established it makes instantaneouschanges that are just one click away let’s go further and changeum the fonts that are in this flyer as well so if I click on the fonts herewatch what happens to our flyer look at that nowit changed to the fonts that we’ve established before that are in our brand kit now if I wanted to change let’s saythat I think that this font is way too small I can just click on that area andgo up here and change the sizing and as you can see it changed it but what itdid was use the established fonts that we’ve already put in our brand kit tomake this flyer now more representative of our business because it has ourrecognizable color palette that we’re using across the board in our marketingmaterial so when I come down here now let me just show you not onlywill instantaneously make those changes once I click on the color palette or the fonts but if I come down here and I sayI want to apply it to all the pages which we have two pages so this would this wire would be a front and a back sothis will be the front of the flyer and this would be the back of the flyer if I click down here and say apply to allpages look what happens it changed the font to the fonts that are in our brand kitlike we wanted let’s go back up here and change the colorsand look at that it changed the colors to the colors that we use in ourbusiness again if I don’t like the color combination that’s here I can Shuffle I can change these individually if I clickon them I can go and make the changes myself but why not use the feature inthe Styles feature and have it do do it for you so let’s click on that again and it changes the colors againnow let me show you one other area in this in this flyer that we might want to change sothis this image is nice it looks like a daycare setting but maybe I want to usea different um image now I could either use images that I’ve uploaded or I can go to photosright here in canva and type in daycareso this one I like this image I like this image let me replace the image here withthat and all I had to do was drag that image over into the area where the imagewas again I’m going to show you how to do that one more time so this image I’ve I’ve selected that I want to use or Ithink I want to use we can always play around with it and use different um try different images and see which ones welike best but this one I want to use on this flyer I’ve I’ve determined so I’mjust going to click on it and I’m going to drag it and it’s just going to fill that whole areaum I don’t like the little boy is cut off here so I’m going to click on the picture and I’m going to click on cropup here and I’m just going to move it over so that he gets a little bit of love and he’s in the picture too I’mgoing to click done here and as you can see this flyer even though we used atemplate it doesn’t look anything like the template that we started with I’m going to show you how thatworks again here on the second page and then I’m going to tell you what I thinkabout using these stock images so on the second page I want to use a differentum image than what’s here um let’s try this image and once again I’mjust going to click and drag it to the pictureum placeholder here and it swaps out the picture that was there to the picture that I’ve just selected so as you cansee using by creating our brand kit first and then going and using theStyles feature in canva you can use one of their redesigned templates andtotally make it yours um I would the only thing I would need todo now is either if I wanted to add some more content I could click onum text here and add more content I could addcontact are awesomedaycare center or a tourokay let’s say I wanted to add that um up here is gonna like be faded by thepicture so I might want to move it down here and then I might want to change it touse one of the colors in our color palette so it stands outum I would probably want to change this website name to my business website nameso I’m going to change that to awesomedaycare so if this was your flyer you could change it to your businessum website name or your business name we’re going to change this it’s not Tiny Tots it’s awesomesome so this would be your business name awesome daycare centerso we have changed this flyer it no longer looks like the flyer template that we started with it is our ownum again you can make any changes the second page as well and I’m going to provide a link to this particulartemplate so that if you want to use it or play with it and get comfortable withthe different features that canva has then you can do thatbut I hope you see how easy it is to use the um to use canva to first of allcreate a color palette and a brand kit that represents your specific businessand that is unique to your business because by you choosing the different fonts and colors to using your paletteyou are creating something that’s unique to your own business and by using thedifferent features in canva it’s easy to create um marketing material that is cohesiveand consistent across the board by using your color palette along with the Stylesfeature that we just used to um even use thetemplates that canva has pre-designed and create something that’s completelydifferent and um looks very goodin a matter of minutes now the last thing I wanted to discuss was usingum the photos or stock photos as they’re called in our marketing material you couldchoose to do that I do um in my marketing material I will usethings um I I will use stock photos I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that a lotof these photos are high resolution and um if you don’t want to use the onesthat have the faces you could also use ones like this thatshow these manipulatives but still represent the same idea of a daycare center or a daycareum I don’t find a problem using stock images like I said there the the resolution on these images are isusually very high so it’s going to print out very well on your flyers or yourdifferent excuse me your different marketing material um but you could use your own photos from your own facility orum uh pictures that you’ve taken uh the children uh in your facility if you havepermission to use them and you can use those instead of the stock images hereum but either way canva makes it really easy to upload those photos and to useeither these stock photos or your own photos and you can manipulate them likeI did earlier crop them move them up make some changes but either way it isjust an easy platform to maneuver and to create marketing material that you canuse for your business and of course being able to create yourown marketing material uh and be able to hand that out at it as a at a tour toparents um we’ll give you a leg up because it gives them something to remember thedifferent features and the unique things that your business has to offer by having something that they can refer tolater okay so one last thing before I um show you that feature that I talkedabout um earlier and to help youum create your own um color palette before I go there Ijust want to let you know that um if you were to create your own flyer uh canva also has printing services soup here in while we’re still in our design any any design that you’ve created thereis a feature here that you can say print you can see that says print flyers up inthe right um upper section so if I click on that it will give me the information onnumber one it gives you kind of a mock-up of what it looks like even though we can see here kind of what itlooks like but it gives you the front and back um let’s see if you just wanted to printthe front I think you have that option or if you want to print both front and backum you can it gives you different paper that you can use and what I like aboutit is it it’ll give you an estimated price here it also will let you knowwhere you can pick this up from and so it just makes it a little easier than you having to print this out send it toa printer or download it print yourself it won’t it’s probably going to be athigher resolution and a better better product to have something like canva goahead and print it for you so that’s a fairly new feature that canva has and it has it for a lot oftheir different designs they do have the ability for you to order the prints directly from themokay and the last thing I wanted to show you was that color palette generator Ispoke of earlier and so we’re back here on the home page of canva and right hereat the top under business there’s several resources but one I want to call to your attention right now is calledbuild your brand Under use cases so if we click on thatyou’ll see that there’s quite a bit of information that canva provides to helpyou build a brand that um or brand kit that that you feelrepresents your brand and it gives you a lot of information about the differentcolors and um being consistent with your branding and why that’s so important andwe talked about that earlier but something I want to show you if we scroll all the way to the bottom hereand like I said there’s several different resources here that that are worth exploring but right here at the bottomwe see that there is a color palette generator under Explorer there’s a colorpalette generator so if we click on that then canva is going to either allow usto use an image that we might like or you can scroll down and see thedifferent pre-made color palettes that you might want to use now I’ll just give you a tipum in our niche of child care sometimes I draw inspiration by going to otherwebsites like say Lakeshore Learning or other websiteslike that to see what colors they’re using oftentimes they do use a uma high impact or very saturated color palette and so then I kind of use thatas inspiration for the colors that I use for a particular brand or to create abrand kit of my own but as you can see canva makes it really easy to even Exploreum different color combinations and to try out different things but they alsohave several color palettes um look there’s 99 pages and probably more than that of different colorpalettes that are pre-selected to work together so you could choose one ofthese upload that to your brand kit and you are good to go okay so I hope thatthis tutorial has helped you get comfortable with the different featuresthat canva offers when it comes to developing a brand kitfor your business and how easy it is almost one click sometimes to createum marketing material or different documents um that you might want to useum uh can before I did have one other thing I did want toshow you you remember when I was talking to you about using your logos in your brand kit and weuploaded a few and I just want to show you how they look when you apply them to your design so where you will find yourlogos is you on the left hand um column here you scroll down to logoslet me see if I can find it there it is so it looks like this click on logos andthere are all the logos that we uploaded earlier and remember I told you how theuh these two versions are pngs and they have a transparent background and thesetwo are jpegs and they have a solid background so um I want to show you whatthey look like when we apply them to our design I wouldn’t necessarily put my picture on a flyer but if I applied itif I just click on it it is going to apply over here and I will probably want to make it much smallerum and you need to make sure you lock this design so that it doesn’tum do at let meokay so I just wanna it keeps it keeps swapping out thepicture but anyway I just wanted to show you what it looks like when you apply it let’s add a PNG so you can see thetransparent background let’s get rid of this picture I’m going to come down here and I’m justgoing to apply this logo and this is the PNG and it hasthe transparent background around it and as you can see that’s how that would look if we applied our logo to our flyerhere and it just kind of you know is a better look than if you use let’s say Iuse the um jpeg here let me show you what that would look like so I’m going to reduce the size but seehow this is cleaner because it’s a round logo um this background kind of distorts theway this logo is really supposed to look but that’s the difference between a JPEGand a PNG logo so I just wanted to show you that that feature and how to findyour logo section and that’s it I hope that you willexplore and play with this template and I will provide a link to it and all youhave to do is click on it it’ll take you right into camera right to this particular template and you can go inand make edits to all the different areas pictures the fonts you can makeall those changes and play with this um design and I hope it encourages you to createnew designs and more marketing material for your businessthank you so much for joining me today
